The BVA began in 1985 as The Voice Research Society. It pioneered the multidisciplinary approach to voice in the UK. In 1991, as a registered charity, it merged with the Care of the Professional Voice (UK) and changed its name to The British Voice Association.
Recognised as the pre-eminent association in its field, the BVA serves as an umbrella organisation for all who are involved in the care of the human voice, including speech & language therapists, singers and singing teachers, voice teachers, laryngologists, acousticians, and other professional and amateur voice users.
